At Friary Care, we believe that mental wellbeing is just as important as physical health. That is why we were proud to take part in Mental Health Awareness Week 2026, embracing this year’s theme of ‘Action’ and highlighting the importance of small, positive steps that support mental wellbeing every day.
Encouraging Positive Mental Wellbeing Through Everyday Activities
Throughout the week, residents and staff took part in a variety of activities designed to encourage conversation, connection and emotional wellbeing. From peaceful walks in the fresh air to relaxed chats over coffee and cake, the week created valuable opportunities for people to talk openly, socialise and support one another. Spending time outdoors gave residents and staff the chance to clear their minds, enjoy gentle exercise and appreciate the positive impact that fresh air and companionship can have on mental health.
Live Music and Entertainment to Lift Spirits
Music played a big part in the celebrations, with fantastic live performances from Tina J and Danny Jukebox. Residents enjoyed an uplifting mix of swing music and classic songs, including favourites made famous by Frank Sinatra. Live entertainment brings joy, encourages social interaction and creates meaningful shared experiences, all of which play an important role in supporting wellbeing within our care home community.
Supporting Staff Wellbeing
As part of the week, staff were also given thoughtful wellbeing goodie bags as a small gesture of appreciation and encouragement. Supporting the wellbeing of our care team is incredibly important to us, helping to create a positive and caring environment for both staff and residents.
Raising Awareness and Reducing Stigma
Mental Health Awareness Week is also an opportunity to encourage open conversations and challenge the stigma that can still surround mental health. At Friary Care, we want residents, staff, families and the wider community to know that support is always available and that nobody should feel alone in how they are feeling.
During Mental Health Awareness Week and throughout the rest of the year, we continue to remind everyone of an important message: it is always OK to talk.
