Every October we make it our mission to support and raise awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which runs from 1st – 31st October in the UK. This year, the team at Friary Care Residential Home in Weymouth decided to make a meaningful contribution to this important cause by hosting a delicious coffee and bake sale with our residents to raise funds for breast cancer charities.
Coffee and Cake Sale Success
The coffee and cake sale at Friary Care Residential Home was a huge success, raising an impressive £325.00 to support the vital work of breast cancer charities. These breast cancer charities, like Breast Cancer Now, Cancer Research UK and Pink Ribbon Foundation, among others, are so important as they provide essential care for individuals fighting breast cancer and offer support to their loved ones during treatment.
We couldn’t have hoped for a better result, thanks to the generosity of our staff, who donated lots of delicious homemade cakes and contributed ingredients to make the event possible.
Our amazing staff baked mouthwatering treats, including cupcakes, cream tea, fruit cake, coffee and walnut cake and the classic Victoria sponge. Each one was absolutely delicious and it was hard to resist keeping them all for ourselves! Thank you to our team for all the hard work you’ve put into creating the delicious baked goods.
Our team’s incredible support has been instrumental in boosting the funds raised for these important breast cancer charities. The entire team at Friary House Care Home in Weymouth came together to ensure the bake sale was a triumph and we’re proud to have hosted this meaningful event at our residential care home in Weymouth.
Why Friary Care Supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Sadly, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in the UK, with one woman diagnosed with breast cancer every ten minutes. 55,000 women and 400 men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the UK, with 1 in 7 women developing breast cancer in their lifetime [Breast Cancer Now].
At Friary Care, breast cancer charities hold a special place in our hearts, as many of us have been touched by the loss or struggle of loved ones facing this disease. We are committed to making a difference by supporting these vital charities, and one of our favourite ways to do this is by raising money through creative initiatives that bring joy to our residents, visitors, families and staff.
