Celebrating Good Care Month at Friary Care

Baking Club & Wellbeing Club at Friary Care

July marks the annual celebration of Good Care Month, an initiative championed by the National Health Service (NHS) and various care organisations across the UK. The campaign not only highlights the hard work and dedication of those in the care sector but also encourages continuous improvement in care practices.

The Origins of Good Care Month

Historically, the campaign began to acknowledge the significant contributions of care workers in health and social care settings. It has grown in prominence over the years, reflecting the increasing awareness and appreciation of the essential roles that these professionals play in our communities. It serves as a reminder of the impact that compassionate, high-quality care has on the well-being of the most vulnerable members of society.

How Care Homes Celebrate

Across the country, care homes like Friary Care and Kingsley Court, adopt a variety of activities to celebrate this special month. As we continue to plan for the month ahead, here are a few ways we and other care homes are engaging with the spirit of the campaign:

Workshops and Training Sessions

In previous years we have organised workshops and professional development sessions for our staff. These activities are designed to enhance skills and ensure the highest care standards are maintained within our Weymouth care homes.

Recognition Events

Awards and recognition ceremonies are very popular during Good Care Month, and we are always ready to celebrate the contributions of our care workers.

We will be holding our own awards event to recognise the outstanding care workers and teams at Friary Care. They are a great way to boost morale and encourage others to strive for excellence.

Community Engagement

If you know Friary Care, you will be aware that we open our doors to the local Weymouth community on a regular basis. Our local activities include charity events, tea parties, local choir visits, cycling along the esplanade, animal visits and so much more.

They are a fabulous way for us to foster stronger relationships between our residents and the local community. And let’s not forget our local suppliers who do an amazing job in supporting us and ensuring we continue to operate effectively on a daily basis.

Wellness Activities for Staff and Residents

Keeping well and feeling good about yourself are two of the areas we strive to achieve at Friary Care – both for our residents and our staff.

Throughout the month we will be running a number of activities to promote our care home wellness activities – in the past we have run mindfulness sessions, Health & Wellbeing Club and Baking Club, Herb Garden and also Ear waxing for our residents.

Sharing Stories

Our residents love to reminisce, and we love to share a good story. Throughout July we will be collecting positive stories from our staff and residents and sharing them with you. Keep an eye on our Friary Care Facebook page where we will showcase our news.

Why Good Care Month Matters

Good Care Month is not just a celebration but a positive initiative that brings attention to the dedication and hard work of those in the care profession. It’s a time to reflect on the progress made in care practices and to look forward to the ways we can continue to improve. As other care homes join in these celebrations, it creates a ripple effect of positivity and commitment to quality care across the sector.

Join the Celebration

We have lots of activities planned, so if you are also getting involved let us know what sort of things you will be doing.

The smallest gesture counts, so why not send a thank-you card to one of our care teams – it’s a simple way to acknowledge the heroic efforts of those in the care sector.

As Good Care Month progresses, let’s remember the profound impact that caring, committed professionals have on our lives and the lives of our loved ones. Here’s to good care, where every month should be a celebration of those who make it possible

My grandmother is extremely happy at Friary House. The staff are hardworking, kind, caring and always smiling. As a family, we feel comfort knowing our grandmother/mother is safe and happy. At Friary House, the team are exceptional. Thank you!

Our commitment to your safe care

Throughout the pandemic we have been advised by the Department of Health, The Care Quality Commission, Public Health England, and our dedicated GP. This has ensured our ability to give the maximum protection to those who have made their home with Friary Care, our staff and their families. All our staff and residents have been offered the Covid-19 vaccine and we are looking to the future with a much easier heart.
