D-Day Celebrations at Friary Care

June 6th 2024 marked the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings along the Normandy coast during World War II. The landings ultimately led to the liberation of Europe, and we here at Friary Care want to commemorate this occasion and salute those who valiantly fought for the freedoms we have today.

At Kingsley Court we had a fun-filled morning making lanterns, with D Day bingo and and a very special D Day afternoon tea.

At Friary House we started the day by watching the TV service for the D Day landings, this was in our home full of D Day decorations with staff getting in on the action by wearing red, white, and blue. In the afternoon we had a very special D Day picnic in Radipole Gardens with music, and the day was capped off with a chippy tea from the Marlborough Fish & Chip shop.

Both occasions gave our residents a chance to share and reflect about this special day. This was a very emotional day as many of our residents lost loved ones in this awful war – the pain of being unable to say goodbye still hangs heavy on their hearts. In honour of respecting and remembering the loved ones who are no longer here with us, here are some quotes on behalf of the residents:

“How so many sacrificed for us.”
“We shall remember what they sacrificed.”
“Walking in the footsteps of heroes.”

From everyone at Friary Care we just want to say “lest we forget” and that we will always keep those loved ones who sacrificed so much, such a close place in our hearts, as they have played such a big part to our lives.

We salute you.

My grandmother is extremely happy at Friary House. The staff are hardworking, kind, caring and always smiling. As a family, we feel comfort knowing our grandmother/mother is safe and happy. At Friary House, the team are exceptional. Thank you!

Our commitment to your safe care

Throughout the pandemic we have been advised by the Department of Health, The Care Quality Commission, Public Health England, and our dedicated GP. This has ensured our ability to give the maximum protection to those who have made their home with Friary Care, our staff and their families. All our staff and residents have been offered the Covid-19 vaccine and we are looking to the future with a much easier heart.
