Friary Care Residents Mark Armistice Day

At Friary Care in Weymouth, our residents and team came together to honour Armistice Day, also known as Remembrance Day. This annual moment of reflection is very important to our community. It gives us the chance to show our respect and gratitude for the many people who sacrificed so much during conflicts around the world.

In the days leading up to the event, our care homes were thoughtfully decorated. Residents helped display poppies throughout the building, creating a warm and reflective atmosphere. We also produced pictures of poppies in our hands to show how close the memory of these brave individuals remains to everyone here at Friary Care.

This year, alongside the traditional poppies, we also wore and displayed forget me nots. These small flowers symbolise the sacrifices made by returning injured soldiers and served as a gentle reminder of the cost carried in body, blood and limb. The combination of poppies and forget me nots encouraged thoughtful conversations among residents and staff.

At 11am we joined many others across the country in observing two minutes of silence. Those who were able to stand did so proudly as a sign of respect. Afterwards, we raised a glass to honour all who have been affected by conflict. We also took a moment to salute the veterans who have been part of our Friary Care family in Weymouth, whether in years past or today.

The afternoon continued with a wonderful musical performance from Olivia, whose uplifting set created a warm and engaging atmosphere for residents and staff. Moments like this highlight the strong sense of community within Friary Care and our commitment to providing a caring and connected environment for everyone who lives with us.

Here in Weymouth, we believe in creating meaningful moments for our residents. Armistice Day is one of those occasions, bringing people together to remember, reflect and support one another.

We shall remember.
