Friary House is Celebrating Mental Health Awareness.

Friary Care Mental Health Week

In honour of mental health awareness week, Friary House has been taking part in several activities over a series of jam-packed days.

The week has started off with residents making and designing their own mental health awareness T-shirts – each T-shirt has inspiring messages about embracing and supporting everyone with their mental health.

Mental Health Support

We’ve also had a conga-line around the home! We danced and sang around the home with all the residents and staff. We did this so we can smile and laugh, but also to stay physically active as this can be an important part of maintaining our mental health.

But movement that helps mental health doesn’t need to take big physical actions, and for that reason we’ve had the birds of prey visit the home! This allowed the residents to move more subtly and hold the birds of prey in their hands and appreciate their natural beauty.

The residents have also put into their own words what they believe mental health is and have expressed this by designing a series of pictures of their very own. They’ve included words that truly represent what mental health means to them, ensuring that we treat each other with dignity and respect, especially for anyone who has been affected by mental health.

Fundraising Event

We’ve even had a fundraising event! Our cook, Beth, has been organising fundraising events for mental health awareness and suicide which is close to everyone’s heart. Beth’s daughters, Pamela and Lisa, are climbing Mount Snowden to raise money for this good cause.

All throughout the week we’re having chances to have coffee, cake, and a chat. It’s so important to discuss our feelings, and for that reason everyone needs to remember that it’s okay to not be okay and that it’s good to talk.

This is Me!

We are finishing off the week with nibbles and a film! The film is The Greatest Showman and it’s one of the residents’ favourites. It’s particularly touching as the wording of one of its songs is what this week is all about, and that is ‘This is Me!’.

We should be never be afraid to talk about our feelings, as our feelings are what make us ‘us’, we should all stand tall and say out loud: ‘This is me!’.

Our commitment to your safe care

Throughout the pandemic we have been advised by the Department of Health, The Care Quality Commission, Public Health England, and our dedicated GP. This has ensured our ability to give the maximum protection to those who have made their home with Friary Care, our staff and their families. All our staff and residents have been offered the Covid-19 vaccine and we are looking to the future with a much easier heart.
