Friary Care work with amazing young people who we hope inspire a new generation into social care.
Here’s an article about two young people who did a work placement with us…
I started placement on the 28th of September 2022 and finished on the 14th of December 2022. I came here for work experience as part of my health & social care course at college. I attended every Monday and Wednesday and completed 120 hours, which was needed to complete my course. I really enjoyed attending placement and felt very welcomed by all the friendly staff.
Whilst I was here I had a range of experiences, being from learning about residents and their life / struggles now to doing activities with them such as games, art and painting their nails. I have really enjoyed doing this as it has allowed me to get to know types people I wouldn’t have necessarily have been able to if i didn’t get to do this. I’ve also loved seeing all their different characters and learning how to make them all enjoy themselves whilst here. I have found doing my work experience here has been really rewarding and can see how happy all of the residents are here.
Overall i have found this to be a very eye opening experience. All the staff have been lovely and i would recommend Kingsley Court to other students for work experience as well as recommending here for individuals looking for a job within care.
I started my placement on Monday 9th January 2023 and should finish around the 28th March 2023, I’m currently still working here as a part of my Health and Social care course that I’m studying at Weymouth College – I attend my placement here at Kingsley Court every Monday and Tuesday. I have to complete 120 hours of work experience at a placement to pass my course. I’m really enjoying my course and I love doing work placement here at Kingsley Court. I’m very grateful for them taking me on and allowing me to complete the 120 hours that I have to do to. The staff all made me feel very welcome and the residents seem to enjoy having me here and talking to them and completing activities with them.
On Tuesday mornings at about 10:30am I go out on the bikes for about an hour- most of the residents love this and enjoy getting out for some fresh air and to see Weymouth. I also have enjoyed getting to know all the resident as they’re all such different characters and have such different personalities. I enjoy speaking to them individually and learning about their life but also enjoy doing activities together. I’ve enjoyed all the activities including, going for coffee at the local restaurant, the bike rides, quizzes and trying new foods.
I’ve found working here very eye opening and so interesting to learn about the people who live here. It’s also very rewarding as you can tell they enjoy speaking to me and learning about my life. The staff are all lovely and made me feel very welcome. Overall, I am really enjoying doing placement here.
