At Friary Care, we were proud to come together to commemorate the anniversary of Victory in Europe Day. Our VE Day celebrations gave residents, families and staff the opportunity to reflect, remember and celebrate the courage and sacrifices made during World War II.
VE Day is an important moment to remember those who gave so much so future generations could live in peace and freedom. During our celebrations, residents and staff took time to reflect on the bravery and resilience shown by so many people throughout the war, as well as recognising those who continue to make sacrifices to keep others safe today.
A two minutes’ silence gave everyone the chance to pause, remember and pay their respects together.
Afternoon Tea, Music and Community Spirit
Residents enjoyed a traditional afternoon tea alongside drinks and plenty of conversation in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Bringing people together through shared experiences is an important part of life at Friary Care, helping residents stay socially connected and engaged.
The celebrations were made even more special with live entertainment from Connie, who performed a wonderful selection of classic songs that residents knew and loved. Connie’s performance included timeless favourites associated with Vera Lynn, whose music remains closely linked with the spirit of wartime Britain. Residents thoroughly enjoyed singing along to familiar songs, creating a nostalgic and uplifting atmosphere throughout the home.
Creating Meaningful Experiences at Friary Care
The day was shared with residents, family members, friends and staff, making the celebrations feel even more meaningful. Events like these help create moments of togetherness, reflection and joy, while strengthening the sense of community within our care home.

Through themed events, live entertainment and shared activities, we help residents stay connected to cherished memories and traditions.
Our VE Day celebration was a heartfelt reminder of the importance of remembrance, community and coming together to honour the past while enjoying meaningful moments in the present.
